Man jailed 7 months for hacking bizman’s Opay account

A Dei-Dei area court in Abuja has sentenced an unemployed man, Idara Sunday, to seven months in prison for hacking into a businessman’s account and stealing N306,200.

Sunday was convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to theft.

The Judge, Saminu Suleiman, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N30,000 and ordered him to pay the complainant, John Tom, N269,200 as compensation.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant reported at the Kubwa Division on April 25, that the defendant fraudulently hacked into his Opay account and stole N306,200 on February 2.

He added that during police investigation, N37,000 was recovered from Sunday, including one Infinix Smart 5 phone which he purchased with the proceeds of the fraud.

The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
