Maimunatu Sa’idu, a normal sighted lady, has said she got married to a blind teacher, Dahuru Abdulhamid Idris, because she loves him the most among her other suitors.

The wedding Fatiha, which took place at the residence of the bride in Zakirai town of Gezawa Local Government Area, was attended by hundreds of well-wishers, relatives, and a large turnout of visually impaired people. The sum of N50, 000 was paid as a dowry.

Dahuru Abdulhamid became popular in 2021 after he was interviewed by Daily Trust newspaper on his struggles for education and how he was then serving as a volunteer teacher in a public school.

However, following the report across multiple platforms on the Daily Trust, a philanthropist, who chose not to be named, purchased a brand new three-bedroom house for the blind man. After that, the Kano State government also offered him a teaching job at Grade level 07.

Moreover, other philanthropists also offered several forms of assistance from states to encourage the blind man. Later, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also contacted and promised to offer him a permanent job, but the formalities are yet to be done.

Two years later, Abdulhamid fulfilled his dream of becoming a husband by marrying a wife he met through her elder brother who happens to be his friend.

Shortly after the wedding, the bride told Daily Trust that she is ready to handle all the responsibilities ahead as a wife to a man with special needs.

“I have loved him from the first day I met him and I will continue till eternity. I believe that God destined us to be together and I accept it with my heart. He is the kind of person I want to be with in my life. He is decent, gentle and loves everything about religion,” she said.

“Marrying him is like fulfilling a life ambition, I promised myself I will marry the best person I love among my suitors. I will try my best to discharge my responsibilities. I will take good care of him and his entire family.”

On his part, the groom said he met his life partner through her elder brother “Who happens to be my friend. From there I realized that I got a wife because of the way she accepted me despite my blindness.”

On how he will take care of his wife as a blind man, the school teacher said “Marriage is exchanging ideas, needs and responsibilities. So, she has her own responsibilities and I have mine too. I will try my best to deliver and I pray Almighty Allah to guide me right.”

He said the history of his life will never be complete without mentioning the Daily Trust report about his life, which was the main reason for his life transformation.

Despite having NCE, Dahuru Abdulhamid is now in 400 level, studying Political Science at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) after securing a scholarship from the former Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdullah Uba Adamu.
