The management of Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja and the leadership of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), yesterday commissioned a modern computer-based examination centre for the professional examinations to be conducted in the country.

The commissioning came barely 11 months after the university and the ACCA signed a memorandum of understanding in order to set the stage for the university to become a flagship institution for the professional body in Nigeria.

Daily Trust recalls that the MoU, which was signed on June 9, 2022, provides the opportunity for the university to become an ACCA-approved learning provider and CBE centre, facilitating the provision of on-demand computer-based testing and collaborations on professional training for ACCA students.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the commissioning, the Global President of ACCA, Mr Joseph Owolabi, said Nigeria would bring professionalism to its citizens who have shown interest in the accounting profession.

Owolabi, who also enjoined both undergraduate and postgraduate students of the institution to prioritise having dual degrees while studying for fast career progression, disclosed that other students from other disciplines are also allowed.

On his part, the vice-chancellor of the institution, Prof. Dilli Dogo, explained that both partners have extended the opportunity to students who are not studying accounting or any business-related courses.

He stated that “Following the MoU with ACCA, Nile University commenced the ACCA Foundation in Accountancy (FIA) programme.

“It offers people with a non-accounting background a head-start towards further finance and accounting qualifications by serving as the entry point to the ACCA Qualification,” Prof. Dogo stated.

Similarly, the Pro-Chancellor, Mr John Vermaaten, in an interview with journalists pledged that the institution would not relent in making sure that employability of the students is a priority.
