Bride arrested for beating pregnant co-wife to coma over praying mat

A bride in Kano State, Rukayya Bashir, has been arrested by the police for allegedly beating and injuring her pregnant co-wife over a praying mat in Dala community in Dala LGA.

A source, Usman Kabir, said the bride stepped on the praying mat of her co-wife, and that when she complained, she ignored her.

Kabir explained that, “When the first wife insisted that she must tell her why she did a wrong thing, the suspect began to beat her until she inflicted injuries all over her body and she was rushed to the hospital.’’

Other people in the area noted that there had been a constant conflict between the two women who were married to one Alhaji Bashir Mai Chemist.

Contacted, Mai Chemist said although the bride had been arrested, they were in negotiations to see that the matter was settled in-house.

Spokesman of the police command, SP. Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said they had commenced investigation into the matter.
