APC govs should reach consensus on S/South senate presidency – Afegbua

A former Commissioner in Edo State and Convener of Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa, Prince Kassim Afegbua, has asked governors who are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to influence zoning of Senate presidency of the 10th Assembly to the South-South.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Abuja, Afegbua who was flanked by co-conveners of the coalition, Prince John Mayaki, Cletus Obun and Ayo Oyalowo, said the emergence of the next Senate president from the South-South would stabilise the polity.

He said the APC governors should reach a consensus the way the Northern governors on the party’s platform insisted on zoning of the party’s presidential ticket to the South last year, stressing that the South-South contributed in no small measure towards Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential poll.

Also, the member representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, Onofiok Luke, has backed Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas for Senate President and the Speaker, House of Representatives respectively in 10th Assembly.

The lawmaker, in an interview with journalists yesterday in Abuja, said despite the credentials of the other aspirants, the duo is best suited for the job.

Similarly, the Coalition of South South Community for United Nigeria, Justice and Equity, has urged APC leadership to zone Senate presidency to the South-South.

Chairman of the Coalition, Mr Eseme Eyiboh, during a press conference in Uyo, said Akpabio has the capacity and pedigree to occupy the office, and that his emergence as Senate President will foster equity, justice and fairness.
