The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 18 governorship election in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has formally filed a petition before the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal seeking an order to declare him as the winner.

Adebutu hired a legal team led by Chris Uche (SAN), in the battle to reclaim the alleged stolen mandate.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner, having polled a total of 276,298 votes. Adebutu scored 262,383, while Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came a distant third with 9, 4754 votes.

Adebutu, who is alleging manipulation of results and declaration against adherence to the margin lead principle, had vowed to seek redress to reclaim his “mandate”.

Giving details of the petitions, Uche said it was filed on “four solid grounds” while hoping that the tribunal “will do the best.”
