Two people have been arraigned for allegedly killing a herder, Danjuma Maidanji, and injuring his daughter, Mariam, over grazing rights in Patigi LGA of Kwara State.
The suspects, Ali Suleimman (24) and Sidi Abubakar (12), were accused of criminal conspiracy and causing death contrary to Sections 97 and 225 of the Penal Code.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the suspects, who are Fulani, attacked Maidaji and his children with sticks which resulted in his death, leaving Mariam with head injuries.
The FIR reads in part: “The suspects were previously invited by the deceased to graze their cattle on his farm to eat remnants of his farm produce only to lead other Fulani to the farm in the night with cattle and attack the deceased and his children.

“They also grazed their cattle in his farm and destroyed his harvested maize in the process.”
The Magistrate, M.D. Dasuki, granted the accused bail and adjourned to April 11, 2023.
