I don’t want to raise my kids as my father did — Bovi

Although ace Nigerian comedian, Bovi, for over a decade has kept smiles on the face of Nigerians and people across the world, not many people know that he had a sour relationship with his father while growing up.

Due to this experience, the funny man in a recent interview stated that it has always been at the back of his mind not to raise his children the way his father did.

While chatting with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, the humour merchant stated that although he is ‘cool’ with his father, their relationship had not always been rosy.

He said, “I am not close to my dad but we are cool. Stuff happens; I grew up in a home but we were not like Falz. But we are cool. With time now, I am grateful that I have had the ability to study and know that you cannot make another person responsible for your happiness. Neither can you blame anybody for your misfortune.

“Everybody answers for themselves s, I got to that point where I realised that my old man was acting based on what he knows. If he had known more, things would have been a bit different. It is not like we were always fighting but I don’t want to raise my kids the way my father brought me up so I am trying to be different.”

However, he noted that he has since gone past that stage in life despite the fact that he was bitter toward his father at a point in his life.

“There are a lot of stories but I am a new person now, so, I have put it behind me. I realised that in the past I probably used to speak from a place of hurt then I grew to understand that I am responsible for myself. I will not say that it is because of him I did not turn out well or because of him that I am a bad dad. The responsibility falls on me. So, I let that go completely.

“For lack of a better word, there was a time I was bitter with my dad. I used to be an emotional person but then I decided to take responsibility for my emotions,” Bovi said.
