A witness, Ademola Abidakun, told our reporter that the accident occurred when the driver of the commercial bus lost control of the wheel and immediately rammed into some motorcyclists awaiting riders by the side of the busy road.

Mr Abidakun, who added that he was returning from the church with his family of three, explained that the accident in which two persons died was a narrow escape for him.

“I think he (the driver) was sleeping while driving because the way he lost control of the wheel of his vehicle surprised us.

“He rammed and went to crush the commercial motorcyclists who always await passengers at the popular Jubilee junction in Ikare and two persons died instantly after losing so much blood,” he added.

Confirming the incident in an interview, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ikare Unit Commander, Mr Alabi Oluropo, attributed the accident to over-speeding on the part of the driver.

Mr Oluropo, however, added that the driver was among the dead.

According to him, aside from the two dead, 10 passengers in the vehicle were also injured in the process.

“The accident happened as a result of speeding. We are aware that the late driver lost control and rammed into the okada rider.

“A total of 19 persons were involved. Two died and 10 were injured. The driver of the vehicle and one passenger in the bus died.

“The deceased and the injured were taken to the Ikare General Hospital,” he stated.

Mr Oluropo further revealed that the damaged vehicle was handed over to the police in the town for more investigation.
