2 stabbed to death, others injured as thugs clash in Kano community

At least two people have been reported killed while several others injured after two groups of thugs clashed in Tudun Fulani and Dandinshe communities in Ungogo LGA of Kano.

Witnesses said the incident started after the declaration of the gubernatorial election result when thugs from Dandinshe stormed their neighbouring community, Tudun Fulani and disrupted activities in the area.

Laminu Auwal Idris, a resident of Tudun Fulani, told City & Crime that some people had to flee their houses as the thugs kept attacking themselves and destroying property.

He explained that, “Although the fight started after the declaration of the result, that was not the beginning. It’s an old rivalry; they have been taking advantage of events like this to attack themselves. Many people were killed several times like this. As of now, the people killed are more than two. But people are saying only two were killed.

“One of those killed is called Dan Naziru, he was a notorious thug who had been disturbing people here. The other one is also another notorious thug, but I don’t know his name. He was from the other community.”

He added that although the fight erupted in the morning, the thugs also came back in the evening stabbing people and chasing away business owners.

Another resident, who pleaded anonymity, said, “Some people slept in my house, because they are close to the dangerous spots. We have been living in fear in this area. We are helpless whenever this is happening. Even if they arrest them, they get released. We need the government to intervene and end this problem.”

A leader of the community who spoke on behalf of the village head, Malam Umar Lawal, said they reported the matter to three police stations surrounding the communities and that policemen were deployed to the areas.

He said, “We have to take action about this otherwise there will be problems. We have been facing this crisis for over a decade now and yet it has not ended. Both the communities and the government should unite and take action.”

The spokesman of the state’s police command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, could not be reached for a reaction on the incident.
