The senate yesterday lamented President Muhammadu Buhari’s rejection of the constitution amendment bill to empower federal and state lawmakers to summon president and governors.
President Buhari had last Friday assented to 16 out of 35 constitution alteration bills transmitted to him for assent by the National Assembly.
The president, however, declined assent to the remaining 19 bills, including the proposed legislation which sought to empower members of the national and state assemblies to summon the president and governors on issues in which the legislature has the power to make laws.

Speaking during Tuesday’s plenary, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, said the most striking of the 16 approved bills was the fifth alteration bill number six which made provisions for financial independence of Houses of Assembly and the judiciary.
He, however, said the 19 bills that were not assented to by the president would still be pursued vigorously by both chambers of the National Assembly.
