Protesters storm Amosun’s residence over governorship poll

A group of protesters under the aegis of ‘Concerned Ogun Citizens’ have stormed the residence of a former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and begged him to join forces with other opposition parties to unseat Governor Dapo Abiodun during the March 18 election.

Amosun, who had insisted that Abiodun, his friend-turned-political foe, must not be re-elected, is strongly backing the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Biyi Otegbeye.

But a group of protesters carrying placards on Saturday stormed the Ibara Housing Estate residence of Amosun and urged him to join forces with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ladi Adebutu, in the next Saturday’s election.

Some of the inscriptions on their placards read “Dapo Abiodun must go”, “Senator Ibikunle Amosun don’t let Ogun State people down”, “United we stand, divided we fall”, “Senator Amosun support us now”, “Senator Ibikunle Amosun, please join PDP allied forces now”, among others.

The leader of the group, Ajirotutu Oluwafemi, who submitted a protest letter, noted that only a strong alliance could help the opposition party defeat Abiodun at the poll.

He asked him to drop his support for ADC’s Otegebeye and back Adebutu during the next election.

The protest letter was received on Amosun’s behalf by the Director General of Biyi Otegbeye Campaign Organisation, Muyiwa Oladipo, who assured the protesters that their demands would be looked into.
