The police in Bauchi State and vigilantes have neutralised two suspected kidnappers in Ningi LGA in a gun duel and rescued a victim who sustained gunshot injuries.
The command’s spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakil, in a statement, said, “On March 3, 2023, credible intelligence revealed to the command that gunmen invaded the residence of Alhaji Abdulhamid Muhammad at Rafin Cora village via Ningi LGA in an attempt to kidnap his son, Usman Abdulhamid, aged 28. However, in the process, the victim resisted being taken away by the kidnappers. The victim was shot multiple times in his lower abdomen while making an effort to escape.
“On receipt of the information, police operatives, jointly with vigilantes, led by DPO of Ningi, mobilised to the scene to counter the kidnappers from accomplishing their mission. The kidnappers welcomed police operatives with gunshots. The operatives engaged them in a gun duel which forced them to scamper in disarray with possible gunshot wounds.
“Consequently, one of the kidnappers met his waterloo on the spot, while one AK-47 was retrieved during the encounter. The victim was rescued and immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Birnin Kudu.”
Wakil noted that effort had been intensified in a bid to follow their trail and arrest the fleeing suspects.
