15 arrested over plot to hack election results

The police in Katsina state are investigating 15 suspects over alleged plot to hack into the presidential and national assembly polls’ results.

Nigerians are electing a new president and their representatives at the National Assembly today.

The Katsina Police spokesperson, SP Gambo Isa, who briefed newsmen Friday evening, said the suspects were arrested with several electronic gadgets including computers.

“Police are conducting investigations and the outcome will be made clear to everybody,” he said.

“We don’t want to jump the gun. We invited experts and they are doing their work to see the system to ascertain actually what is in the place because of its sensitivity,” he added.

The suspects have been detained at the police Headquarters awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

A statement by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs of the Tinubu/Shetima Campaign Council, Hannatu Musa Musawa, alleged that the suspects were agents of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“We wish to urgently call the attention of Nigerians and the law-enforcement agencies to what transpired in Katsina State Katsina local government area earlier today (Friday).

She said her party received a tip off which alleged that “the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had secured a building belonging to one Alhaji Abdulazeez Mamman (Audu Mamman).”

Hannatu further alleged that “12 PDP members were arrested with approximately 21 computers found in their possession.”
