Elections won’t hold in 10 polling units in Benue – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benue State Wednesday disclosed that a total of 2,777,727 registered voters in the state will be participating in the general elections.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof Sam Egwu, who disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the commission in Makurdi, also disclosed that the elections would not hold in 10 Polling Units (PU) in the state.

Egwu said that the total number of registered voters in the state was 2,777,727, adding that out of a total of 5,102 PUs in the state, polls would only be conducted in 5,092.

He announced that elections would not hold in the 10 PUs spread across Buruku, Gboko, Kwande, Makurdi and Okpokwu LGAs because the units had no registered voters.

He also disclosed that the state office of the commission had taken delivery of BVAS machines for the conduct of the elections in the state, which he noted had been subjected to functionality tests, and that ad hoc staff for the elections would be given practical training on its usage.

On his part, the Commissioner of Police in Benue, CP Wale Abass, emphasised that the police had done threat analysis across the three senatorial zones in the state and were prepared to provide adequate security for the elections.
