The Obio Usiere community in Eniong Abati,Odukapni Local Government Area of Cross River State is now a ghost town as bodies are being recovered, Daily Trust on Sunday gathered.
Speaking with newsmen yesterday, the village head, Aposle Iya Effiong Orok, said so far, 10 bodies have been recovered.
Last week, herdsmen and farmers clashed leading to the death of one Etim Okon and another unidentified person. But many more bodies have been recovered after the clash.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident, saying policemen have been drafted to the village.
Effiong Orok said, “we have lost about 10 people. The same incident occurred two years ago when two people were shot dead, now its 10 people.
“As I speak with you, Obio Usiere has been deserted, our women are afraid to go to their farms because some of them were raped in the bush. We have reported to the police, DSS and other security agencies and we are using this opportunity to call on Governor Ben Ayade to assist us because about 3500 people are now homeless, we have become refugees in our own land.
“It is true that some policemen were sent here but the shortfall in logistics is a big challenge”.
