The House of Assembly candidate for Kaiama Constituency, Mohammed Babangida, alongside local government and ward executive members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), yesterday defected to the PDP in Kwara State.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors after meeting with the Director General for the PDP Governorship Campaign Council, Prof Ali Ahmad, Babangida cited disintegration and lack of structure in their former party as part of reasons for their defection.
He added that, “Underdevelopment and lack of adequate government attention” in Kaiama LGA fueled his ambition to make a change by contesting for the House of Assembly seat.
Babangida further said the NNPP lacked the structure to win any election in the state, adding that the PDP remained the only political party that could wrest power and rescue Kwarans from the neglect, suffering and hardship being experienced in the state.
He noted that, “As grassroots politicians, we have searched around for the best alternative party that can address the yearnings of our people. We were all in the NNPP to actualise this, but unfortunately, the party lacks the grounded structure needed for any serious political party to win an election.”
