Nigeria is bleeding yet the solution is not forthcoming. We are bleeding emotionally, physically, mentally, socially, psychologically and financially. The lackadaisical attitude of our government towards the welfare of its citizen is no longer newsworthy as the government has abandoned its citizen to the cold hands of economic oppression and depression, which has led some to their early graves.
Can we talk about the lingering fuel scarcity which has persisted for a while now? Going out is now a big luxury as commercial motorists can only fuel their vehicles through the black market and this has, however, affected the cost of transportation. And despite the hike in fuel which has led to the high cost of transportation, the masses still put up with it. Worthy of note is that the masses channel all their pent-up anger and aggression on the public transport drivers and their conductors thereby leaving out the main perpetrators.
Banks that are meant for safekeeping are now the masses’ nightmares. The hard-earned income of the masses at the banks cannot be retrieved to meet their needs. Hence, they can only access a stipend of whatever their banks can part with. Thus, some banking apps no longer function effectively and most POS operators are also having a field day with outrageous charges on each transaction made.
Some persons no longer sleep at home but rather at the bank, and those who cannot sleep at the bank wake up as early as 4 am to queue up at the bank to obtain a number that will enable them to qualify for the day’s transaction if possible. Just Imagine hundreds of people standing under the scorching sun in other to retrieve what they worked for. This has, however, led some citizens to act insane as some stripped naked in the banking hall, lamenting and demanding for their hard earn money to be given to them.

The masses are yet to understand the concept of this cashless policy and yet the banking platforms have failed to live up to their expectations. However, most buyers end up spending more hours at the market because they had to wait for their transactions to go through, but at the end of it all, they leave without achieving their purpose. Hence, families no longer smile at each other because there is no money in their pockets and no food on the table.
