Orisun gallery hosts ‘The Art of Friendship’ workshop

To commemorate the 30 years of friendship and warm relations between the Israeli Embassy and Nigeria, Israeli and Nigerian artists collaborated on the project, The Art of Friendship with the Orisun Gallery as its host.

The goal of the project was to combine the talents of well-known Israeli and Nigerian artists to create a masterpiece. The two artists, Israeli Ella Amitay Sadovsky and Nigerian Dr Peju Layiwola, have been working at the Orisun gallery for more than a week, attempting to fuse the cultures of the two nations and recreate them in an iconic and artistic way so that the artworks will show how the two nations’ relationships have developed over time.

According to Nigerian artist Layiwola, the project perfectly illustrated the meaning of the title—”friendship”—and what people were able to get out of it.

She said; “The project is a collaboration between two artists, and it was an idea that came from the Israeli Ambassador and his wife to celebrate the friendship the country has established over the last 30 years with Nigeria. So, what better way is there to celebrate this friendship than the use of the arts within a very beautiful gallery space.

“We are using the arts as a platform for establishing diplomatic ties and friendship. We are two female artists, indicating that women are given a voice, their works are shown to the world. It is important that this is happening across cultures, across countries”
