TRCN inducts 411 new teachers in Akwa Ibom

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has inducted 411 staff and students of the University of Uyo into the council.

Speaking on Friday in Uyo during the ceremony of two batches of inductees, the Registrar of the Council, Prof. Josiah Ayiboye, urged them to be ready to facilitate learning and make it meaningful to the learners for capacity development.

Prof Ayiboye, who was represented by the Director, of Regulation, Accreditation and Enforcement of the Council, Dr Okuwola Abimbola, said teaching was one of the most challenging professions in society, adding that knowledge should be expanded rapidly for teachers and students.

He stated that modern development in innovative technologies has provided new possibilities to the teaching profession, and also demands that teachers learn how to use new technologies in the teaching and learning processes.

As the inductees took the Oath of Practice, Prof. Ayiboye charged them on the essential legal basis for being admitted into the profession, saying it was a condition for professional practice.

While speaking, Vice Chancellor of Uniuyo, Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Anthony Akpan, recalled that the first induction had a total of 92 inductees. He, however, explained that the COVID-19 pandemic truncated the sixth induction ceremony in 2020, compeling the university to merge the 2021 and 2022 sets with the latter, to have a total number of 284 candidates.
