The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), on Tuesday, commenced Basic Business Training (BBT), for School leavers and artisans in Plateau State.
The trainees are expected to venture into various businesses after the training.
The Director General of NDE, Malam Abubakar Fikpo, while declaring open the training, under the Small-scale Enterprises Development scheme of the directorate, said the exercise was aimed to achieve the desired economic prosperity through small business in Nigeria.
Represented by the Plateau State, Coordinator of the NDE, Mrs. Asabe Lassa, the DG said imparting the skills of business management, will lead to increasing the chances of reducing business failures.
“Therefore, the role of the local barber, shoe shiner, hairdresser, and similar players in the economy cannot be disregarded,” Fikpo said.
He added that at the end of the training, some percentage of the participants will also be provided with starter packs.
The NDE’s head of SSED, Mrs. Chikodi Ike, said the directorate was primarily training Nigerians, so as to reduce unemployment and poverty.
Represented by Mrs. Atinuke Afolabi, she said the BBT training captured, costing of products/services, cash management, record keeping, amongst others.
Ms. Sandra Anikpe, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated the NDE and hoped to apply the knowledge they have learned during the training.
