Land dispute: Group cautions against inflammatory statement

The Ilobu-Asake Development Union has cautioned against inflammatory statement among the people in the neighborhood over land dispute.

The President of the union, Pastor Olufemi Salako, in a press release debunked the rumour by one Jide Akinyooye who alleged the traditional ruler of Ilobu, Oba Asiru Olaniyan, was developing the disputed land in Gbere area.

Salako said nobody from Ilobu was developing Gbere area which is the subject of dispute.

He said “The Ilobu-Asake Development Union wishes to expressly state that the allegation contained in a statement signed by one Prince Jide Akinyooye is not only spurious, malicious but also unfounded.”

He said Opapa village is different from Gbere and that it’s about 5km from each other, saying that Opapa exclusively belongs to Ilobu and has never been a subject of dispute.

According to him, “To put the record straight, the residents of the Opapa approached the Olobu for an assistance to get some drainage culverts fixed ahead of the rainy season.

“The monarch, being a father to all, moved swiftly and mobilised his personal resources to fix the road and get the culvert done. The rehabilitation is ongoing in Opapa not Gbere as alleged.”

Salako appealed to residents to continue to live together in peace and shun any act that could cause violence in the area.
