Three labourers were killed in Aluu community in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State on Saturday as a two-storey building on which they were working collapsed.
In a statement, Mr Ngene James, Head, Disaster Management Rescue Team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers, said the corps’ rescue team mobilised to the site as soon as it received a distress call.
The statement reads in part: “Upon arrival to the disaster scene, we joined in the joint rescue operation by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and sister security agencies.
“Three labourers working at the construction site lost their lives in the accident.
“Preliminary investigation showed that the two-storey building collapsed as a result of the use of low quality iron rods and other materials in its construction.’’ (NAN)
