Over 1000 students benefit from scholarship scheme

Over one thousand final-year students of secondary schools in the Central Senatorial district of Kogi State have been accredited to enjoy the 2023 WAEC scholarship programme.

The scholarship scheme is sponsored by Engr. Abubakar Sadiku Ohere, a former commissioner for works and housing and the All progressives Congress (APC) Kogi Central senatorial candidate in the forthcoming general election in the country.

The education intervention programme was facilitated by the Ebira Youth Congress (EYC) to assist parents in paying WAEC fees for their children.

In her remarks yesterday at Okene, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Folashade Ayo-Ade Arike, described education as the only legacy parents can bequeath their children to make them useful and successful in the society.

Arike charged other well-meaning individuals, politicians and corporate organizations in the state to emulate the kind gesture of Engr. Ohere.

Arike admonished the students to be committed to their studies to enable them come out with good results to justify the assistance rendered to them.

In his address, the National President of EYC, Aliyu Obiyo, disclosed that each of the students was given a cheque of N26,000 to pay their WAEC fees.

He charged the students to use the scholarship for the purpose it was meant for, even as he applauded Engr. Ohere for extending the hand of fellowship to the youths.
