A group, Consortium of Credible Organizations (CCO), has concluded plans to organise a debate for the governorship candidates of political parties in Lagos State, ahead of the general election.
The group comprises Electoral College Nigeria (ECN), Africa Leadership Group (ALG), Civic Hive, Centre for Journalism, Innovation, and Development (CJID), and Sahkola Foundation.
The debate, scheduled to hold on February 15, would be aired on News Central TV and Lagos talks FM From 6 pm, Nigerian time.
According to Kunle Lawal of the Electoral College Nigeria, “We have come together to create a debate format interaction, worthy of the status of the giant of Africa and Lagos, the second largest economy in Africa.
“The goal of the debate is to develop an ideological forum, based on the jurisdiction of the office sought with a reach across every stratum of society while weighing the perspectives, strategies, and the holistic developmental ideas of the individuals standing for election.”
He said the gubernatorial candidates representing different parties have shown interest in turning the state around and making their different impacts if elected.
“We believe that through these debates, a formidable pathway can be realized,” he said.
The candidates are Olufunsho Doherty of the African Democratic Congress (ADC); Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, All Progressive Congress (APC); Gbadedo Rhodes- vivour, Labour Party (LP); Akin Braithwaite, National Rescue Movement (NRM), Olajide Adediran, People Democratic Party (PDP); and Taofeek Olakunle Uthman, Social Democratic Party (SDP).
