Abia 2023: I am contesting to win – ADC Candidate

Bishop Sunday Onuoha, governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State, says he’s in the contest to win.

This was as he expressed sadness over the death of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof Uche Ikonne.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, Onuoha said, “By the special grace of God I am contesting to win and I will become the next governor of Abia state. I will take over from the current governor. I also want to state clearly that I’m in pain over the death of my friend, Prof Uche Ikonne who I have journeyed with in many instances.

“Prof Ikonne didn’t need to die for me to win. I am meant to be the next governor of Abia state by God’s grace and I pray that Abians would have the opportunity to exercise their franchise and go to the polls to cast their votes and the votes will be counted.

“Abians are looking forward to a new opportunity. A new Abia is possible. And for who I am; integrity, transparency, cleanliness of character that I bring to the table, opening up a new page for the people and ensuring that through who I am and what I am, I will provide opportunities for investors to come into Abia.

“I will create the opportunity for local government resources to be used at the local government level. I will not touch local government funds; teachers will be paid. Abians are looking forward to a man who has invested in Abia through the years.

“I started investing in Abia over 27 years ago. Ask those who want to run for governorship in Abia to come and show me the investment. I have employed hundreds and hundreds of people in Abia, training young people, employing men and women, catering for people with disability, reaching out for those in prisons.”

He said to tackle insecurity in the south eastern region, the government of Abia, Imo and Rivers states must come together.

“We have to look at the region as a hub. Imo is border to Abia, Abia is border to Rivers state and I think that the government of Abia, Imo and Rivers state need to come together and work as a team so that whole insecurity in the region can be tackled,” he said.
