Court remands 2 over possession of guns, other weapons

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, remanded two men in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly having in their possession two locally-made guns and other dangerous weapons.

The defendants, Faruk Lawal, (23) and Toheeb Oladele, (22), are both unemployed and reside at Orile-Iganmu, Lagos.

The defendants are standing trial for unlawful possession of firearms, conspiracy, terrorism and causing breach of peace.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fajana, who did not listen to the defendants’ pleas, ordered their remand in Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

Fajana adjourned the case till Feb. 13 for advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Funmi Akinleye, told the court that the offences were committed on Nov. 9, 2022 at Awe junction, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos.

Akinleye said that a distress call was put across to the police in that axis that some hoodlums were shooting sporadically and that they were fully armed.

He said that some police personnel were deployed to the scene and that when the hoodlums sighted them, they all ran away.

The prosecutor said that the defendants were arrested and that two locally-made guns, a battle axe and a cutlass were found in their bags.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 27, 51, 298, 330 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
