The Katsina State gubernatorial town hall meeting organised by the Media Trust Group, with support from the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), would be held today in Katsina.

Five governorship candidates will address the audience and entertain questions pertaining to their manifestos.

The epoch-making meeting is organised in collaboration with other notable media organisations like Vision FM, Farin Wata TV and Katsina City News – an online newspaper.

The Chairman of the occasion, Professor Sani Abubakar Lugga (Wazirin Katsina), underscored the importance of such a meeting which he described as a fine blend of the conventional debate and a town hall meeting which gave it a unique and a more organised outlook.

He said, “This is not a kind of debate in which one candidate is taking on another in a challenging manner; neither is it a usual town hall meeting in which normally one person is invited to interact with an audience.

“It is, therefore, a fine blend of the two, complementing and refining each other, and that is why you have something like chairman of the occasion, which you cannot find in a normal debate.

“This is the first of its kind in this part of the country, and perhaps in the whole country as far as I know.”

The Chairman of the Media Trust Debate Planning Committee, Dr Suleiman A. Suleiman, said the meeting was expected to give political parties and their candidates for the upcoming elections the opportunity to get their plans and agenda across to the voters.

He added that the event had also gotten the support of all the security agencies in the state which have promised to deploy personnel and equipment for the peaceful conduct of the event.
