According to the ministry, the initiative is to improve innovation and creativity among Nigerian youth by encouraging them to develop their own app ideas and turn them into a reality by using them to solve problems.

The challenge cuts across agriculture, education, finance, health, sports and the telecommunications sector.

For agric-tech, apps are needed around precision farming, crop monitoring, and irrigation systems. For edu-tech, apps should hover around online learning platforms, virtual classrooms, and educational games.

The government is also seeking tech ideas on mobile banking, online payment systems, and personal finance management tools in the fintech sector.

In health, apps should be on telemedicine, fitness tracking, and disease management. “An app idea that solves a problem in this sector could be one that helps people manage their health more effectively, provides access to healthcare for underserved communities, or tracks and motivates healthy behaviours,” it noted.

For sports, an app idea that solves a problem in this sector could be one that helps athletes optimise their performance, such as fitness tracking among others.

In telecommunications, apps such as mobile networks, internet service providers, and communication tools are sought after.
