Vandals cut N5m underground power cable in Abuja – AEDC

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) is concerned over the spate of vandalism on its networks, including a recent theft of underground power cable worth N5 million in Abuja.

In a statement by the Chief Marketing Officer of AEDC on Sunday, Donald Etim, the company said, “Recently, 185 meters of XLPE underground cable were carted away at the Central Business Area, Abuja FCT, valued at over N5 million at just one location out of several others that have been similarly affected across our franchise.

“The multiplier effect of these damages runs into billions of naira.”

Etim said AEDC would, however, not relent on its efforts to ensure it provides adequate, uninterrupted power supply, hence the company’s continued investments in network upgrades, refurbishment of faulty transformers, procurement of new transformers as well as the construction of new feeders and lines to relieve existing ones.

On customer services, the spokesman said the company had improved on metering by taking meters out to customer cluster locations and getting them metered within 24 hours.
