Kano to expand hibiscus farming, export

The Kano State commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Yusuf Jibrin Rurum, has revealed that the state government has committed a lot of efforts to ensure the expansion of hibiscus flower farming in the state.

It is also set to encourage massive exportation of the flower to earn foreign exchange for individual investors and the state.

The commissioner made this known during an official visit to the largest hibiscus fumigation centre in Africa, situated in the state and owned by Mumin Foods and Drugs Limited.

He said the state is happy to see indigenous investors doing well in the exportation of hibiscus flowers, adding that the state government will assist in ensuring that a huge expansion in the business is achieved soon.

“It is interesting to see such a huge investment being coordinated and owned by indigenes. We have seen the new technologies being introduced as well as the processes involved.

“This is what we want to see our indigenous business community doing, and we will ensure a sustainable expansion of the business as a state,” he said.

Earlier, the chief executive officer of Mumin Foods, Alhaji Abdullahi Usman, stated that the company began operations in 2019 and had been exporting the commodity, adding that the commissioner’s visit was an encouragement to the company.
