The chairman of Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Isah Sadiq Achida, has said the state’s 2023 budget proposal has no serious provision for the masses while further uplifting the comfort of political office holders.
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal recently presented the budget to the state’s House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
In the budget, the state government earmarked N1.5 billion for the purchase of vehicles for new political appointees in 2023 and N914 million for victims of COVID-19.
Speaking on the proposal, Achida described the budget as a misplacement of priorities.

He said, “What we saw was nothing but a misplacement of priorities; a bundle of contradictions that aim to uplift the personal comfort of political office holders, over and above providing essential services to the people.
“The proposal betrays the government’s sense of priority, when essential services such as water supply, education, health facilities and drugs, fertiliser and rural roads remain ignored.”
He also cautioned banks against granting the N3.4 billion loan request by the state government.
The request was earlier rejected by the APC caucus in the state assembly when it was forwarded to the parliament for approval.
