IMC hold draw Wednesday, insists on abridged NPFL league

Ahead of the preparation to commence the 2022/2033 Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL, on Sunday, 8 January, 2023, the Chairman, Interim League Committee, IMC Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye has insisted that the draw for the abridged league format will hold tomorrow in Abuja.

It could be recalled that since the inauguration of the IMC to run the league, there has been back and forth between the club owners and the IMC over the kind of the league format to deploy for the new season.

But the IMC’s Chairman cleared the air during an interview on a radio program in Lagos anchored by Mitchell Obi. He explained that the draw will witness the names of the 20 clubs grouped into three pots, adding that the IMC will try to ensure that clubs from the same states do not fall into the same group.

SPONSOR AD

“So, on the 28th on Wednesday, we will have the draws and then the league will start on the 8th of January 2023,” he added.

He added that the IMC has been in talks with the sponsor of the preseason league to ensure the new season matches would be broadcast live on television stations.

“We don’t have a title sponsor for the Nigerian Football League. I have to tell you that the current sponsor that we just brought in now said we are going to get involved because of what the IMC stand for.  We are a member with a credible background, so what we told the sponsor is, ‘don’t give us money in IMC, give it directly to the clubs,” he said.
