The Acting Director General of the National Blood Service Commission (NBSC), Dr Omale Joseph Amedu, has said Nigeria is open to the use of cells options, and other new technologies in blood medicine.
A statement from the agency on Monday said the D-G made the disclosure when the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), a non-profit professional, scientific and administrative association for individuals and institutions engaged in blood banking and transfusion medicine, visited the commission in Abuja.
He said the commission is rooted in the production of blood components for use by patients and other research efforts.

The statement said the International Ambassador for the American Association of Blood Banks, Dr Gajendran Sivakumar, was on a mission to accelerate access toward quality management system implementation, and development of technical capabilities that meet global standard for blood practices.
According to the statement, in the days ahead, the AABB would set out modalities to join forces with the NBSC in achieving quality management system implementation in Nigeria through technical guidance and resource support.
