Nollywood’s Leading Men of 2022

2022 has indeed been a great year for Nollywood. So many movies and mini series were released this year, exploring so many themes. While we have the directors and producers to thank for this, we must also recognise the efforts of the actors who brought the characters that entertained us to life. Daily Trust highlights some actors who truly entertained Nigerians in 2022.

1. Deyemi Okanlawon 

Dubbed the hardest-working man in Nollywood, Deyemi is literally in everything! This stellar actor is the living representation of hard work and consistency.

In 2022, he played Kola in Netflix’s Blood Sisters, where his character was killed off early, but his acting made him very memorable.

He was also the Elesin Oba’s son in Elesin Oba, and most recently, he made a brief appearance on Netflix’s Far From Home.

Deyemi’s hard work and brilliant acting skills make him one of the leading men in Nollywood.

 

2. Kunle Remi

Kunle Remi, born Oyekunle Opeyemi Oluwaremi, is a Nigerian Actor who many first met as the 7th edition winner of Gulder Ultimate Search in 2010.

This actor has been in a number of movies including, Prophetess, A Naija Christmas, and even Tinsel.

It is, however, his role in Kunle Afolyan’s Anikulapo that puts him on this list. He played Saro, a fabric weaver who engaged in an illicit affair with the Queen of Oyo.

His character sparked a lot of debate on the internet and kept Nigerians entertained.

 

3. Shawn Faqwa

Shawn Faqua is a Nigerian Actor and model who has been in quite a number of movies.

You may remember him as Toby in Living in Bondage.

In 2022, he picked up a role as one of the three childhood friends in Blood Covenant. He played the hot-headed and drug-addicted hacker, Osiano.

 

4. Tobi Bakre

Known for his time as a big brother housemate, Tobi Bakre has constantly been proving that he is an actor worthy of commendation.

In the 2022 hit movie Brotherhood, Tobi played Akin, a gang member who grew up orphaned and turned to the streets, while his brother became a lawman assigned to a task force hunting his gang.

He also played Eddy, one part of three childhood friends in Blood Covenant. He was the level-headed real estate expert before the friends got entangled in a money ritual.

The roles he played in 2022 are a testament to how far he has come.

5. Uzor Arukwe

Uzor Arukwe is one actor who should be given all the flowers in the world.

This versatile actor played Jite in Blood Covenant. He is one of the three friends the story revolved around.

Interestingly, he was also in Glamour girls where he his character was the husband to one of the Glamour Girls.

He is one actor who always nails his character.

 

6. Daniel Etim Effiong

Daniel Etim Effiong is a Nigerian actor who is no stranger to Nigerians.

Many knew him from the YouTube series, The Men’s Club, and from then on have recognised him in movies like Superstar, Collision Course, New Money and Selina.

In 2022, however, he played Akin in Blood Sisters where his character showed him as a friend, and most importantly a truthful and kind ally.

He is one actor who keeps Nigerians glued to their screens.

 

7. Falz.

Nigerian rapper turned actor, Folarin Falana, popularly referred to as Falz, is another actor whose growth has been inspiring to watch.

The young man has held his own right from his days in Funke Akindele’s Jenifas Diaries to his characters in Merry men, Quams Money and Chief Daddy.

In 2022, he played Wale, the twin brother of Akin (Tobi Bakre) in the hit movie, Brotherhood.

His brilliance and craft continue to grow through the years.
