Babalola wins 2022 Ekiti SWAN Scrabble tourney

Bayo Babalola, of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Progress FM, Ado-Ekiti, has emerged champion of the 2022 Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ekiti State Chapter Scrabble tournament.

In the final match of the competition, Babalola defeated Jeremiah Omoniyi, of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State while Kehinde Durodola of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Ado Ekiti beat Qozeem Oladapo,  of  BSES in the  third place match.

The Sponsor of the competition, Barrister Steve Alabi, who instituted the annual event in memory of his late father, Prince Adeyemi Imperial Alabi, said his father deserved the honour due to the enduring legacies he left behind.

Barrister Alabi, who was represented by one of his siblings, Princess Bosede Alowooye, commended SWAN in Ekiti,  for always coming up with well-organised competitions in memory of the man who himself was a sportsman.

Speaking at the event, the General Manager, Ekiti State Sports Council, Mr. Kunle Adeyemi, the pioneer SWAN Chairman in Ekiti State, Mr. Toyin Ayoola also promised to launch a competition soon.

Earlier, Ekiti SWAN Chairman, Qozeem Oladapo commended Barrister Alabi for his consistency in sponsoring the competition, which has now entered its sixth edition.

The winner, Bayo Babalola, who himself is a former Chairman of the body, expressed delight over his victory, saying he would always cherish the moment.

The annual Ekiti SWAN Cup had featured sports like table tennis, ayo-Olopon, tennis, athletics before this year’s scrabble event.
