The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has monitored over 12,000 networks this year as it pushes for a safer electricity supply.
The Managing Director and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir, stated this at a briefing over the weekend in Abuja.
He said, “We have so far inspected more than 15,000 electrical installations across the country and it cuts the generation, transmission and distribution value chain of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry. We also monitored more than 12,000 networks to ensure that they continue to be fit for the purpose they are meant for.”
Speaking further, Engr. Tahir said NEMSA also inspected electrical installations in over 3,000 companies including pole manufacturing firms.

The NEMSA boss called for more collaborations in dealing with power lines right of way trespassing as he lauded Kano, Kwara and Lagos for demolishing structures under power lines.
“We issued a directive that all these structures should be disconnected. Today the utility companies are complying and they have disconnected about 4,000 structures,” Tahir noted.
He also said NEMSA has been engaging various stakeholders in pushing for improved electrical inspection, testing and certification.
“We are building synergy among staff and external stakeholders in accordance with the NEMSA Act 2015,” he noted, including Fire Service, Police, civil defence and SON to deepen technical enforcement for the power sector.
On Siemens presidential power initiatives, he said NEMSA is involved in the process as 10 power transformers are arriving in Nigeria.
“We are also going to inspect and certify them before they are energised. So, this is ongoing,” said Tahir.
Tahir revealed that next year, NEMSA will improve its inspection level to ensure that new homes and connections are fully inspected by the agency officials before they are certified.
