The President Women in Mining Nigeria (WIMIN), Engr. Janet Adeyemi, has called for the establishment of dedicated fund for women in the mining sector.
Engr Adeyemi, who was represented by Amb. Ijeoma Bristol, made the call in Benin during the project review/meeting of WIMIN in Edo State.
“There should be a dedicated fund accessible to women in mining for equipment financing, mines development, production, infrastructure, exploration and capacity building,” she said.
She also called on the government at all levels to invest in skills acquisition and empowerment of women right from college to boost their participation in mining.

She identified inadequate funds, taxes and levies disparity, lack of access to loans, gender-based violence, and inability to lease equipment among others as some of the challenges hindering the growth of women’s participation in the mining sector.
According to her, the meeting which would review WIMIN projects in Edo State would go a long way towards an assessment of the journey so far to actualize gender mainstreaming in Nigeria.
