Court dismisses suit seeking Tinubu’s disqualification

A federal high court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to disqualify the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, over alleged breach of the Electoral Act.

Justice Inyang Ekwo yesterday held that the applicant lacked the locus standi to file the suit, which robs the court of the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The judge held that the Rights for All International, a non-governmental organisation, ought not to be involved in a political matter.

Other defendants in the suit are; the APC, PDP, the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Among other things, the NGO had asked the court to hold that the APC did not comply with Section 90(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, having presented Tinubu as its presidential candidate to INEC and publishing his name without verifying his N100 million fee.
