NNPP dep. gov’ship candidate quits race, dumps party

The deputy governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Niger State, John Paul Bahago, has quit the race.

Bahago in a letter addressed to the ward, local government, state and national chairmen of the party said he has withdrawn from the race and resigned his membership of the party.

He, however, did not state his reasons for dumping the party. He is also yet to declare his next political direction.

Part of the letter reads, “I, John Paul Bahago, from Guni Ward, Munya Local Government with membership Registration No. 003, write to resign my position as deputy governorship candidate to Alhaji Yahaya Ibrahim Mohammed (Sokodeke) on the platform of NNPP and also resigned as a member of the NNPP.”

The state chairman of the party, Mamman Damisa, who also confirmed the resignation to our correspondent in a telephone interview, said Bahago did not tell them the party he was moving to.

“He has resigned both as deputy governor and as a member of the party. That was what he said in the letter sent to us. But we don’t know the party he is moving to. If there is any update, I will let you know,” he said.
