14 Lagos-bound cattle traders die in Jega/Yauri road accident

No fewer than 14 Lagos-bound cattle traders died on Monday evening in a motor accident along Jega/Yauri road in Kebbi State.

The police said the traders were travelling in a truck No: SRZ 518 XS, conveying passengers and cows from Illela LGA of Sokoto State to Lagos when it ran into another truck parked by the shoulder of the road at Dada village in Koko/Besse area of Kebbi State.

Forty passengers were said to be travelling in the truck when the accident occurred. Twenty-six of them who sustained injuries were taken to the General Hospital, Koko for treatment.

No fewer than 22 cows were also said to have died in the accident.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Magaji Kontagora, who was at the scene of the accident, confirmed 14 people dead and those victims were responding to treatment. 

The CP advised motorists to always maintain their vehicles and observe safety measures while driving.
