I want to nurture young wrestlers — Oborodudu

African and Commonwealth Games champion, Blessing Oborodudu, has said her ultimate desire is to groom young wrestlers who will become champions.

Speaking to our correspondent, the multiple national sports festival champion who has won three gold medals in Asaba said she participated to inspire upcoming wrestlers. 

“Talents have never been an issue with us, but nurturing them is the problem. This is why I’m in Asaba to motivate our young wrestlers having been in this position before.

“Our sports need mentorship and that is one way we can produce more future champions. My own generation looks up to our president, Daniel Igali and we were able to follow his legacy. It is time for us to inspire the young ones,” she said.

In the same vein, Team Ogun Para athlete double gold medalist, Omolola Akinbode has declared that her physical disability can’t stop her from being acknowledged in the society. 

“People feel because we are physically challenged, we can’t achieve success and are treated poorly or downgraded but I have never allowed that to affect my performances.

“I am smiling home to the bank but some able bodied guys are leaving here empty handed. I will continue to strive hard and be recognised in the society, said the shot put T37-37 gold winner.
