Team Rivers and Team Bayelsa on Thursday won the gold medals in both the male and female basketball games respectively at the ongoing 2022 National Sports Festival in Delta state.
In the male category, Team Rivers clinched the gold medal after they pipped Team Lagos 70-69 in a keenly consented match played on hard court at the Uguwashi Uku stadium .
Earlier, before the final match, the 2021 champions, Gombe Bull settled for bronze as they defeated Delta 81- 78 in the third-place match.
In the female category, Team Bayelsa outclassed Team Delta with 12 points difference of 43-35 to win gold while Team Rivers inflicted another defeat on Team Lagos by winning them 49-30 to win bronze.

Speaking after the event, the president, Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, Engr. Musa Kida revealed to newsmen that talents discovered from the sports festival would be invited to the national team.
“The national team will make ample use of the talent that we have seen here. What we have done as NBBF at the beginning of the tournament was to invite the national coach to come and scout for players.
“Based on my discussion with him yesterday, he is very impressed with the kind of players he has seen who will match up with the national team,” he said.
