OAU produces 130 first class graduates

No fewer than 636 students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife would graduate with 3rd class while 130 graduands make First Class Honours.  

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Adebayo Bamire, disclosed this in Ile-Ife at a press conference heralding the 46th convocation ceremony of the university. 

He said, “Out of 5,852 graduands, 130 made first class and1,323 made the second class upper division. Of them, 1,991 made lower division while 636 graduands finished with 3rd class and 34 graduated with pass.”

 The VC said the impact of the eight months strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was mitigated and that it only affected teaching.

 He said OAU placed much premium on the welfare, success and progress of its students, “hence the urgent need to graduate our students whose results have been approved by the University Senate, almost immediately after the suspension of strike by ASUU.” 

 A Professor of International Relations who is also the chairman of the university’s ceremonial committee, Charles Ugochukwu-Ukeje, said OAU remained committed to its core mandate of producing human capital for the nation.
