Ronaldo to sign £173m Saudi contract – Report

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to sign a bumper £173million-a-year contract with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, which would make him the highest earner in sport, according to reports in Spain.

Daily Mail UK quoted Spanish outlet Marca to have reported that Ronaldo, who is currently a free agent, was set to sign a deal with the Middle East outfit at the start of next month.

The outlet claimed that the initial deal was worth close to €100m (£86m) but would’ve been incentivised by further agreements such as advertisement and sponsorship deals.

The 37-year-old had his Manchester United contract terminated on November 22, following a tumultuous relationship with club chiefs.

The Portuguese star in an interview with Piers Morgan heavily criticised both Manchester United as a club and the manager Erik Ten Hag, saying the club had not grown since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.

He added that he had no respect for Ten Hag because the manager had no respect for him.

His contract with Manchester United was terminated on mutual agreement after the club thanked the Portuguese star for his contribution during the two spells which saw him score 145 goals in 346 appearances.

The forward had made no comments over his future during the World Cup campaign, where his Portugal side find themselves in the round of 16. They’ll face Morocco tomorrow night.

Al-Nassr are one of the most successful clubs in Saudi Arabia, having been crowned winners of the country’s top flight nine times, with their most recent triumph coming in 2019.
