FG presents certificates to 19 researchers, investors

The federal government has presented patent certificates of registration to 19 Nigerian researchers, investors and innovators to encourage them to make their works world standard and encourage them to do in the area of innovative and research activities. 

The event was organized by the National Office of Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) to encourage inventors for innovative activities and to further demonstrate the willingness of the federal government in assisting researchers and inventors to protect their Research and Development (R&D) results for their economic benefits and the nation at large.

Speaking at the event on Thursday in Abuja, the Minister of Science Technology, and Innovations, Dr Adeleke Mamora, reiterated that intellectual property in the form of technological innovation has today become the basis of international power structures.

“The speedy industrialization of the country and its economic growth depends largely on the efforts of our researchers. our motivation system managers should be conversant with intellectual property issues.”

The Chief Executive Officer, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr Dan’Azumi Ibrahim, said researchers across the globe strive for patentable research and development results that are capable of attracting ventures capitalists and subsequent licensing for commercialization and achieving economic benefits.

He also said that to strengthen the weak of intellectual properties (IP), NATOP collaborated with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2006 and also established intellectual property technology transfer offices to encourage IP awareness in Nigeria.
