I’m not your saviour, Tems taunts critics

Nigerian R&B singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems has made a public announcement to her critics.

The singer took to her Twitter account where she made several statements that sounded like a stern warning.

In the statement, the 27-year-old singer said she is not anyone’s ‘Christian saviour’, Tems further asserted that she had plans to impress herself with her talents and no one else.

She wrote; “I don’t know who needs to hear this but I am not your Christian saviour. I didn’t come here to uphold your beliefs about God. I will not fit into this box you try to put me in. I won’t satisfy you in that area; please find the person that will. Or ask yourself why you care. So much growth this year. I’m here for my fans. I have worked so much on myself. It will all make sense when it happens.

Tems rose to prominence after she was featured on Wizkid’s 2020 single “Essence”, which attained the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 and earned her a Grammy Award nomination. In the same year, she was featured on Drake’s song, “Fountains”. Tems was also featured in American rapper Future’s popular track “Wait for You” a song that is currently among the 2023 Grammy nomination list.
