A Muslim community in Jos on Sunday offered a special prayer for peace; and to the victims of the Jos ethnoreligious crisis that claimed hundreds of lives in the State in 2008.

The prayer which was held at the Jos Central Mosque was organised by the Jasawa Community Development Association (JCDA), to mark the 14 commemoration prayer for the victims of the crisis.

Speaking during the event, the President of JCDA, Alh. Ibrahim Shehu Masalla, said the prayer was organised to build the spirit of love, peace and courtship in order to erase the bad memories of pain and destruction that happened during the 2008 crisis.

Massalla said that Jos Muslim Community witnessed extrajudicial killings in the 2008 crisis which had displaced thousands of people and rendered many widows and children turned into orphans.

He however said that the narrative has changed with the coming of this present administration which has demonstrated commitment to peace by carrying every community along in the State.

He said, “This community has witnessed the darkness of discrimination, hate and destruction for many years in the past but with the coming of governor Lalong, the community was relieved from the darkness and is now recognised and carried along in the state. We, therefore, promise to reciprocate this gesture by supporting his administration and whoever he anoints as successor in the forthcoming election.”

On his remark, the Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Hon. Shehu Bala, noted that Governor Lalong had set a precedence for peace by demonstrating justice and fairness to all communities which has been instrumental to the return of peace in the state.

He said, “Lalong has set another pace for breaking the jinx of employment in Jos North LGC for the past 26 years where not a single person was employed but upon his emergence as governor, people from all communities were employed in the spirit of fairness.”
