Kano mall hands over N175m expired food items for destruction

A major supermarket operator in Kano, Sufaye Investment Limited has voluntarily handed over expired food items worth N175 million to the state government for destruction.

Its chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Sufi delivered the expired food and drinks to Kano Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) for onward destruction.

He promised to continue to partner with the council to protect the consumers in the state and country at large.

Daily Trust reports that the council has been raiding several markets to rid the state of expired and adulterated products with its last cache of destruction worth over N300 million.

Acknowledging the voluntary gesture of the mall, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in a commendation letter, praised Sufaye as being a worthy ambassador of soft drinks and water dealers as well as other edible food items in the state. 

The chairman, Taskforce on Consumer Protection Council, Baffa Baba Danagundi, on his part, said the chairman of the mall has also been assisting the taskforce in fishing out sellers of expired goods in the state.
