The father of a three-year-old child suspected to have been killed by a neighbour with hot water at New Karu in Karu LGA of Nasarawa State has accused the police, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and court officials of conspiring with the suspects to set them free.
City & Crime had on September 16, reported that Mr Okanga Ogbu Kinsley accused his neighbour’s wife, in connivance with her son, of pouring adulterated hot water on his child on September 7, which led to its death.
The father of the victim said that the suspects were released on November 16, without being tried in court.
Mr Kinsley further said that his life and that of his family members were not safe as they lived in the same compound with the suspects, adding that, “All I want now is justice.”

City & Crime learned that the prosecution police filed a case against the suspects at High Court II, New Karu, on October 26, without mentioning the case as neither the suspects nor the prosecutor appeared in court, and the Judge, H M Kabir, adjourned the case to December 7, 2022.
When contacted, prosecutor, Barr A A Danjuma, explained that in a document dated November 4, and received on November 7, the state’s attorney general’s office advised that the suspects be discharged on the grounds that they had no case to answer.
He further said, “A lawyer from the state Ministry of Justice availed the court with the legal advice that suspects be discharged. I don’t have the power to challenge the attorney general. He’s the Commissioner for Justice of the state. Under the constitution, he has the power to go to court and discontinue any case. If the nominal complainant wants to seek legal advice he should come to the command’s legal office and we’ll furnish them with the photocopy.”
On the accusation of threat to his (Kingsley’s) life and his family, the prosecutor advised him to go and sue the suspects afresh.
